Mr. Colin’s Column
Dear Parents,
Since our initial opening, we have been working diligently to create a dynamic, inclusive, and engaging environment for all members of our school community. I am delighted to share some of the exciting developments and achievements from the past few weeks.
Click on the tabs above for just a few of the highlights.
- Student Advocate Group (SAG): This initiative has provided our students with a platform to discuss important matters such as mobile phone use, canteen food quality, school timings, and toilet breaks. Together, we’ve implemented practical solutions and even collaborated on designing SAG lanyards and house logos—an inspiring display of student leadership.
- Parent Association Group (PAG): Similar to SAG, this group focuses on addressing parental concerns and fostering open communication. The outcomes have been truly enriching, with constructive discussions that benefit our entire school community.
- School Trips: By the end of this term, every student will have participated in at least one school trip. These outings have been both insightful and instrumental in supporting their learning journeys.
- After School Programme: We’ve launched a wide range of activities to keep our students engaged and curious, from robotics to badminton and more. The energy and enthusiasm have been truly wonderful to witness.
- Parent Workshops: We’ve initiated several workshops for parents, including a phonics session for parents of younger children and a curriculum workshop for secondary parents, scheduled for next week.
- Individual Parent Meetings: We continue to support our families through personalised meetings to address challenges and collaborate on strategies for student success.
- ESL and Inclusion Programmes: Our teams are hard at work delivering tailored support through Pull Out and Pull In classes, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive.
Additionally, our PAG team has shared the presentations from recent weeks, which are available for your reference in this newsletter.
Please mark your calendars for the Parent-Teacher Conferences on 13 December. You will soon receive an email via our Clipboard application with details on booking meetings with class advisors and subject teachers. Your children will not be in school as normal but are very welcome to join you when meeting the advisors.
We are thrilled about the upcoming events planned for this term, and you’ll find more information in the Events section of this newsletter.
Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm as we continue to embark on this journey together. We look forward to what lies ahead and are excited to share these moments with you. Please keep a look out for all our exciting events, trips and learning on our social media platforms.
I would like to conclude by sharing a collective acknowledgement from the PAG meeting of 28th November, in which I jokingly said I would share with all parents “our children are happy at school”.
We endeavour to deliver an international school full of “Happy Children, Learning Together” and we really do appreciate your support and feedback.
Warm regards,
Mr. Colin
Campus Update
Construction of our school has been affected by the ongoing concrete workers strike, how have we been impacted?
As you may be aware, the ongoing strike in the industry has significantly disrupted the availability of concrete across the island. This has had a direct effect on certain stages of our construction, particularly those that require concrete for structural work. As a result, there have been unavoidable delays in the progression of the sporting and outdoor learning areas.
Despite these challenges, we are pleased to report that work is continuing steadily in other areas of the construction site that do not rely on cement. Our team is actively engaged in tasks such as stripping paint from steelwork, clearing and preparing the grounds, and advancing architectural detailing. Additionally, progress is being made on the primary external areas where the ground has been prepared for when the strike is over and concrete is delivered, ensuring that we maintain momentum and keep the project as close to its original schedule as possible.
We want to reassure you that we are fully committed to minimising delays and maintaining the highest standards of construction. Although the concrete shortage has caused some setbacks, we are closely monitoring the situation.
We greatly appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate these unforeseen challenges. We will continue to provide updates on the project’s progress and any changes to the timeline as the situation evolves.

Our PAG plays a vital role in strengthening communication and collaboration between parents and the school. It provides a platform for parents to discuss key topics ensuring the parent voices are heard in shaping school life. The PAG has attended informative presentations on topics like Inclusion, English as a Second Language (ESL), and the curriculum, which is shared with you in this newsletter and will be sent out by your grade representative, helping parents stay informed and engaged in their children’s education. In addition to discussions, the PAG works together to implement practical solutions to challenges and improvements across the school.
Over the last week, you should have received an email containing contact details for parents who have agreed to share this information. In this email, your PAG representative is highlighted, and they are your point of contact for raising issues, providing feedback, or getting involved in PAG initiatives. Through open dialogue and constructive outcomes, the PAG helps foster a strong, supportive community that benefits both students and families alike.

Resources and Presentations
Communicating with the School
Effective communication between parents and the school is essential to supporting your child’s success. Here’s a clear guide on how to reach out and get the support you need:
Contact Your Advisor
For any initial concerns about your child’s academic progress, classroom activities, or ways you can assist at home, start by contacting your child’s Advisor. Advisors are your first point of contact and can provide valuable insights into your child’s development and how to support their learning.
Reach Out to the Head of Department
If you feel that your concerns require further attention or that more detailed information is needed, the next step is to contact the Head of Department. They can provide a deeper understanding of the curriculum, your child’s performance in that subject, and any additional challenges they may be facing.
Contact the Parent Representative
If you need additional support or are unsure who to contact, you can reach out to our Parent Representative, Ms Olga at o.burmistrova@lumio.school. She will help direct your concerns to the appropriate person and ensure you receive the assistance you need.
Request a Meeting with School Leadership
For more serious concerns or complex discussions, you can arrange a meeting with the Head of Primary / Middle School, or Head of School. These meetings can be requested through info@lumio.school for general teacher or department meetings, or o.burmistrova@lumio.school for meetings with senior leadership.
General
We are pleased to introduce a new general Trip Consent Form that will make it easier for parents to give consent for all school trips throughout the year. No more filling out paper forms for each individual trip!
To provide your consent, simply follow these easy steps:
- Log in to your child/ren’s OpenApply account.
- Select the Trip Consent Form item at the top of the checklist.
- Complete the required fields.
- Sign and submit the form.
Once submitted, your consent will cover all future school trips, saving you time and ensuring your child can participate in any exciting educational outings.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Use the TABs above for more general updates.
The After School Programme (ASP) team greatly appreciated your patience and understanding as they worked to resolve the issues.
To ensure a smoother experience moving forward, please use the following link: portal.clipboard.app/lumio. The “Forgot Password” function should now be working seamlessly on this page.
Thank you for your cooperation, and we remain committed to providing the best experience for you and your children.
Over the past week, our PAG representatives were invited to the school to sample and test the food served in the canteen. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that the food options meet the needs and preferences of our school community.
Once we have gathered all the feedback from our PAG representatives, we will share the results with parents. This will provide an overview of their findings and any recommendations for improvement. Following this, we will be sending out a further survey to all parents to gather additional feedback and make informed decisions about the future of the canteen menu.
We are committed to keeping your needs in mind and making choices that benefit our students and their well-being. Thank you for your continued input and support!
As part of our commitment to supporting the well-being of our students, we are pleased to offer a complimentary fruit basket for all children attending our after-school provision clubs. This thoughtful gesture ensures that our students remain sustained and nourished during their busy afternoons.
- For Primary School students, fruit will be provided at 15:20.
- For Secondary School students, fruit will be available at 16:00.
We hope this provision helps keep your children energised and ready to make the most of their after-school activities.
