A Celebration of Food, Heritage and Community
On 30 May 2026, Lumio Private School came alive with colour, culture and the most incredible aromas as families from around the world gathered to celebrate our second International School Day — bigger, more vibrant and more diverse than ever before.
Organised by the PAG at Lumio, this year’s event welcomed families representing 15 countries, each sharing their national food, traditions, dress and stories with the wider school community. Over 300 guests enjoyed an afternoon of discovery, connection and celebration.
Around the World on a Plate
Fifteen country tables filled the secondary school, each one a window into a different culture. Families arrived with lovingly prepared homemade dishes, decorated their booths and warmly welcomed guests to taste, explore and learn. The food was nothing short of extraordinary — a showcase of authentic traditional dishes that allowed guests to experience cultures with every bite.
Outside, the Cypriot BBQ station served freshly grilled souvlaki and traditional meat to over 300 people — the smell alone was enough to draw a constant queue throughout the entire afternoon.
Activities & Highlights
Children received their own Global Citizen Passport and set off on a stamping adventure — visiting every country booth to collect a stamp and discover something new about each culture. At the end of the afternoon, passport raffle tickets were drawn and lucky winners walked away with wonderful prizes generously sponsored by local restaurants.
The ice cream truck was a firm favourite with young and old alike, adding a sweet finishing touch to a truly special afternoon.
The Winners
Our school voting committee and community vote crowned three very deserving winners this year:
Best Traditional Dress — Ukraine
Stunning embroidery, vivid colours and unmistakable pride made the Ukrainian family’s traditional dress a clear and unanimous favourite.
Best Dish — Cyprus
Preparing a full BBQ for more than 300 guests required extraordinary effort, organisation and dedication. The food was exceptional, making Cyprus a deserving winner of this year’s Best Dish award.
Best Booth — Latvia
Interactive digital displays, creative games designed for children to learn about Latvian culture and impeccable presentation and packaging set the Latvian booth apart from everything else in the room. A truly unforgettable experience.
One Community. Every Culture. One Lumio Family.
International School Day is more than a celebration of food and culture; it is a reflection of what makes Lumio so special. Our community brings together families from every corner of the world, united by a shared commitment to learning, respect and belonging.
Events like this create opportunities for families to share their traditions, learn from one another and build meaningful connections. They help our children grow up with an appreciation for different cultures and an understanding that diversity is something to value and embrace.
At Lumio, every family contributes something unique to our community, and International School Day is a wonderful reminder that our differences are among our greatest strengths.
Thank you to everyone who cooked, decorated, dressed up and showed up, to our incredible PAG volunteers who worked tirelessly from 10 am to make every detail perfect and to Lumio Private School for providing the space, the support and the vision to make this a reality.
We are already looking forward to next year and to welcoming even more countries, cultures and families as International School Day continues to grow.
One Lumio Family
