The abandoned American Academy in Achelia, near Paphos, has been acquired by Bright Era Education, a British-owned non-profit company dedicated to fostering educational opportunities. The Bright Era team have been working closely and effectively with the Ministry of Education to finalise plans. Renovations on the property and its surrounding land will commence shortly. Lumio Private school will open its doors to its first cohort of students in September 2024.
The picturesque nearly seven-hectare site will function as a non-profit entity, with any surplus revenue being redirected back into the school.
The renovation plans include establishing modern classrooms, fully equipped science and IT laboratories, along with dedicated areas for the arts, athletics, and various extracurricular activities, with a variety of sport courts dedicated to tennis, football, basketball and volleyball. The aim is not merely to renovate, but to reinvigorate the school by welcoming all communities and offering a wide range of external activities and opportunities open to all. Conveniently situated near major motorways in and around Paphos, between Achelia and Koloni, the school will be easily accessible.
Lumio Private school will offer a bespoke Cambridge International Curriculum, designed to provide students with a comprehensive and globally competitive education. Instruction will primarily be in English, with supplementary lessons available to assist non-English speaking students.
Bright Era Education, who is also the sponsor of Neapolis University’s Applied Computer Science Programme, emphasises the importance of a non-profit school model. They state, “Prioritising our children’s education and reinvesting earnings into school and student development is paramount. Our mission is to embrace local and global cultures through high-quality education founded on respect for every individual’s unique identity and to ensure that teachers and students enjoy their time at school. We eagerly await the school’s September opening and remain dedicated to supporting educational initiatives for future generations.”
