Our Curriculum

Our holistic ethos emphasises the individual potential of every student, striving for excellence through comprehensive development. We aim to create a learner-centred educational model that uses project based learning to link areas of the curriculum, providing a dynamic and engaging framework that fosters curiosity and deepens understanding across subjects. Our Behaviour for Learning Framework promotes positive learning behaviours through restorative conversations, fostering an environment of empathy, respect, and mutual understanding. This approach ensures that learners feel valued, supported, and prepared for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.
Our curriculum provides a comprehensive and balanced education, integrating traditional subjects with innovative programmes to develop critical thinking, creativity, and global awareness. We aim to provide a bespoke Cambridge International Curriculum for Grades 1-10, licensing and accreditation are currently in progress.
Core Subjects
English & ESL
Our English programme focuses on literacy, critical thinking, and communication, emphasising expressive and reception language skills across all subjects. We provide English as a Second Language (ESL) support to help non-native speakers fully engage with the curriculum.
Mathematics
Our Mathematics curriculum focuses on developing numeracy skills through practical applications and problem-solving activities. Students learn to think logically and critically, using mathematics as a tool to understand and analyse the world around them.
Science
Science education at Lumio is inquiry-based, encouraging students to explore and experiment. We offer comprehensive programmes in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, helping students develop a solid understanding of scientific principles and the scientific method.

Physical Education

Computer Science & Digital Literacy
In our increasingly digital world, it is essential for students to develop strong digital skills. Our Computer Science curriculum includes coding, programming, and an understanding of digital tools and online safety, preparing students for the technological demands of the future.
Global Perspectives
Our Global Perspectives programme develops critical thinking on global issues, helping students understand and appreciate the complexities of the world. Students learn about different cultures, global challenges, and the importance of ethical decision-making and global citizenship.
Humanities
In the Humanities, students study Geography and History, focusing on both human and physical geography. They learn to appreciate the past and understand how historical events have shaped the present, developing a broad perspective on human development and interaction.
Arts & Creativity
Creativity is at the heart of our Arts programme. Students engage in various artistic endeavours, from visual arts to performing arts, encouraging creative expression and appreciation for different art forms. This fosters not only artistic skills but also emotional and intellectual growth.
Music
Our Music curriculum helps students understand and appreciate music from different cultures and times. Students have the opportunity to learn instruments, participate in choirs and bands, and explore music theory and history, enhancing their cultural and artistic literacy.
Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

Greek & History of Cyprus
In addition to modern foreign languages, we place a special emphasis on learning the Greek language and understanding the rich history of Cyprus. This deepens students’ connection to their heritage and broadens their historical and cultural perspective.
Wellbeing
Wellbeing is a crucial aspect of our curriculum. We incorporate practices like mindfulness and yoga to promote balanced lifestyles. Students learn strategies for managing stress, building resilience, and maintaining emotional and mental health.
Interdisciplinary Learning
Interdisciplinary learning connects different curriculum areas, encouraging students to see the links between subjects. This holistic approach enhances their understanding and fosters a more integrated and meaningful learning experience.
STEAM Integration
Our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) programme combines these disciplines to promote innovative thinking and problem-solving. By integrating arts with STEM subjects, we encourage creativity and a more comprehensive approach to learning.
Our Learning Approach
Our pedagogical approach is designed to cater to the individual needs of each learner, ensuring that every student can achieve their full potential. This approach includes the ADVISOR framework, which guides teachers in coaching, mentoring, and facilitating learning in partnership with students.
The Advisor Framework
Teachers at Lumio School coach, mentor, and facilitate learning in partnership with students using the ADVISOR framework. They are tasked with nurturing a supportive and stimulating environment, providing students with the tools to explore and understand the world around them. This structures effective learning over time and may not be completed in each lesson but used to guide overall progress.
Students are encouraged to be curious, reflective, and proactive in their educational journey. They are seen as co-constructors of knowledge, actively engaged in their learning process, and supported in making choices that reflect their interests and strengths.

Technology Integration

Feedback will be sought through formal and informal processes such as parental groups, surveys, questionnaires and regular conversations.
ADVISOR feedback
Parents will be invited to attend assessment, learning, development and behavioural feedback with your child’s advisor/s on a regular basis.
Examinations
Examinations will be conducted at the end of Grade 12 when the IB Diploma Programme has been accredited and our examination centre is approved.
Homework
Our homework policy will be developed via the Academic Steering Group.
Learning Environment
Phase A (by September 2024)
Primary section with modern classrooms including specialist classrooms for art, and music, a library, indoor play area, and multipurpose outdoor court.
Phase B (by September 2025)
Secondary school with specialist classrooms, including DT, IT and Science laboratories, music and art rooms, a second library, and outdoor learning spaces, multi-purpose courts, football pitches, playgrounds and parking areas, with a multi-purpose hall (2025-2026).
Technology and resources
We harness a range of technologies to enrich learning. Our spaces feature interactive whiteboards and subject-specific software to boost engagement. Innovation Labs provide access to digital libraries, scientific equipment, and creative tools, empowering students to pursue their inquiries and projects.
Community involvement
Our school actively partners with local organizations, businesses, and cultural institutions, enriching the curriculum with real-world experiences and collaborative projects. We invite parents and community members to participate in learning activities, fostering a vibrant, shared culture of knowledge.
After-School Programme
Our extensive After-School Programme (ASP) offers students opportunities to explore new activities and develop their passions through our “3H” model – Heart, Head, and Hands. This programme extends learning beyond the classroom and supports the development of well-rounded individuals.
Through this dynamic learning environment, Lumio School is committed to making physically welcoming, intellectually stimulating, and community-oriented spaces.
