I spent 16 years living in the desert, I absolutely love hiking, cycling, and exploring new places! While working on my PhD at the University of Manchester, I was initially offered the chance to teach a support class for first-year undergraduates as a way to earn some extra money, which I needed at the time. To my surprise, I discovered not only that I enjoyed teaching, but also that I had a knack for it. By the end of my first year, I was teaching an after school support class for my supervisor, employed as a teaching assistant for second-year organic chemistry labs, and volunteering with the School of Chemistry’s outreach programme. These experiences eventually led me to become involved with the Salters’ Institute and Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) as a ‘Science Ambassador.’ In this role, during the last two years of my PhD, I visited several K-12 schools across Greater Manchester, promoting STEM education through exciting flash-bang demonstrations, hands-on activities, and interactive discussions with students of all ages. Looking back, teaching was always in my path—it just took some time for me to fully embrace it.

This experience ultimately brought me into the sphere of education as a platform for building confidence and peace between various groups of youth. Then, thanks to inspiration from my daughter’s Tbilisi-based IB World school, I shifted my focus to education and librarianship. What followed were life changing experiences at IB schools in China and Poland and a Harkness school in Tbilisi. To this day I have a passion for the crucial role librarians and libraries play in building global awareness and understanding, while simultaneously strengthening literacy skills and fostering a love of reading.

When not in school, I enjoy singing and swimming (not simultaneously), reading (naturally), learning languages, and gardening. While living in Beijing and Wroclaw, I got around everywhere on a bicycle. One of my goals in Paphos is to return to the thrill of two wheeled locomotion.
