Head of School – Reflections
Dear Parents,
As we reach the midpoint of Term 1, it is a wonderful opportunity to pause and reflect on the many achievements and moments of progress across our Lumio community. The first half of the term has been filled with purposeful learning, meaningful parent engagement, and continued growth as we strengthen our academic and pastoral foundations. From enriching workshops and curriculum developments to the launch of new initiatives and community events, there is much to celebrate and even more to look forward to as we move into the second half of the term.
In Primary, we have held two parent workshops focusing on Maths and English, SPaG (English Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation), and ESL. These sessions provided valuable insights into how we support learning in the classroom. For those who were unable to attend, both presentations can be found under the Presentations section on our website: https://lumio.school/academic/resources-presentations/
In Secondary, we hosted an IB MYP Information Evening to explain how the curriculum is structured, along with additional MYP and DP workshops offering a deeper understanding of the IB learner profile, subjects on offer, assessment criteria, and student pathways. Our Mathematics Department held a Maths evening to explain the Lumio framework and approach. These presentations are available for parents to view on Toddle and have been emailed to our secondary parents on OpenApply.
We are delighted to confirm that we are approaching the conclusion of the consultancy phase for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). Teacher training has been successfully completed, and we are now finalising the documentation to be submitted for authorisation by the end of this first term.
At the same time, we are working towards full IB Diploma Programme (DP) accreditation. Our consultancy visit took place on Wednesday and Thursday, 22–23 October, and we continue to work diligently towards submitting the authorization application before the end of Term 1.
The recent visit included a valuable meeting with members of the Parent Advisory Group (PAG), who provided thoughtful and positive feedback. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the parents who participated in the interview with our consultant. Your presence and engagement left an excellent impression of our school’s environment—one that reflects our shared commitment and pride in being part of this important educational journey for our children.
Our After-School Programme (ASP) continues to offer a wide range of enriching activities including the opening of the Sport Centre offering, these will continue into the second half of Term 1.
Building strong partnerships with parents remains at the heart of what we do. I continue to welcome opportunities to meet with families through my open-door policy, ensuring that every voice is heard. Parents are invited to drop in on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 08:15–09:00 and on Wednesdays at 15:45. For longer meetings, appointments can be scheduled through the Reception Office.
Our Parent Association Group (PAG) held their first meeting on 13 October and launched the year with a wonderful Halloween Cake Sale on the last day of school. We look forward to more exciting community events throughout the year. You can find your PAG representative in this newsletter.
Finally, we are thrilled to be developing new STEM initiatives, including exciting collaborations with MIT, and the Cyprus Olympiad STEAME PBL – Cyprus Mathematical Society and the start of our Mathematics Olympiad season. More information about these initiatives can be found in our STEM section of the newsletter.
As we look ahead to the second half of Term 1, I would like to thank all students, parents, and staff for their commitment, enthusiasm, and collaboration. Together, we continue to build a strong and vibrant Lumio community.
Your sincerely,
Ms Barbara Battaglino

STEM at Lumio
Last year, our Mathematics, Robotics, and Science departments celebrated outstanding results in competitions and workshops.
This year, we are building on that success with even more momentum — our senior robotics team is already hard at work, while our junior students have received awards for their achievements at the Robotex MRC 2025 competition. Teams have also competed in the Pafos Robotics Challenge 2025. Our Year 10 students Kira, Igor, and Oleg impressed with their technical skill and teamwork. In the junior category Boat Racing, Andrei and Nevo showcased remarkable creativity and problem-solving. Both teams performed exceptionally well, demonstrating outstanding preparation and commitment within a remarkably short timeframe.
In addition, our Mathematics students have entered the first of the 2025/26 Maths Olympiads, continuing to demonstrate their curiosity and problem-solving skills.
We are also delighted to be developing exciting collaborations with leading external institutions — read more about these initiatives below.
