MIT – MISTI Global Teaching Labs
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) prestigious MIT International Science & Technology Initiatives (MISTI) Global Teaching Labs
We’re thrilled to announce an historic educational milestone brought by JetBrains Foundation and KidIT Cyprus— for the first time ever, students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will come to Cyprus in January 2026 to join forces with leading local institutions:
- University of Cyprus (Nicosia)
- Cyprus University of Technology (Limassol)
- Neapolis University Pafos (Paphos)
- Lumio Private School (Paphos)
Together, they will deliver a hands-on STEM & Robotics programme for talented high school and first-year university students aged 15–18.
This initiative is part of MIT’s prestigious MISTI Global Teaching Labs, brought by the JetBrains Foundation and KidIT Cyprus, a global programme connecting MIT students with young innovators around the world.
In Cyprus, the programme will run across three cities — Nicosia, Limassol, and Paphos — led by MIT students together with top Cypriot university mentors.
Participation is completely FREE, thanks to the support of leading technology companies including Exness, Space307, Mellow, TechIsland, and Cyprus Computer Society. Lumio Private School will be hosting the Paphos section of the teaching laboratory as part of our contribution towards the programme.
Selected participants will:
- Learn directly from MIT students and local university mentors
- Build real robotics and engineering projects
- Join an international STEM community and gain early university-level experience
Applications close: November 10, 2025

3rd STEAME Festival
Lumio to Participate in the First Cyprus STEAME PBL Olympiad
Lumio Private School is proud to announce that we will be selecting a team of students to take part in the first Cyprus STEAME PBL Olympiad, organised as part of the 3rd Cyprus STEAME Festival.
The Olympiad is hosted by the Cyprus Mathematical Society and the THALES Foundation, in collaboration with the European Federation of STEAME Teacher Facilitators Academies, and is held under the auspices of the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Dr Athena Michaelidou.
This exciting event will take place on 28–29 November 2025 in Limassol, bringing together students aged 14–17 from both public and private schools across Cyprus to showcase their creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork through STEAME Project-Based Learning.
At Lumio, we are thrilled to provide our students with the opportunity to represent the school in this innovative national competition, which highlights the power of collaboration, inquiry, and applied learning across Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Entrepreneurship.
Further information and details about the selection process will be shared with students and parents.
We look forward to seeing our Lumio learners take on this inspiring challenge and proudly represent our school community on a national stage!
Cyprus Mathematical Society (CMS) – Maths Competitions
Lumio students will be taking part in this year’s Mathematics Competitions organised by the Cyprus Mathematical Society (CMS). These events are designed to inspire mathematical thinking, problem-solving, and healthy competition among students across Cyprus.
The first major event of the academic year is the District Competition (Επαρχιακός Διαγωνισμός) which will take place on Saturday, 8 November 2025
Participants include students from Grade 5 and Grade 6 of Primary School up to Year 3 of Lyceum (Grade 12)
Entries for this year’s competition closed on 24 October 2025, and we are delighted that Lumio students will be representing our school in this prestigious national event.
We will continue to follow their progress throughout the year, as they participate in the various stages of the CMS Mathematics Competitions.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to challenge themselves, celebrate their passion for mathematics, and engage with peers from across the island in a nationally recognised competition.
We wish all our Lumio mathematicians the very best of luck!
