Happy children, learning together!

Mr Colin’s Column

Mr Colin

Head of School

The wishes and aspirations you and your children shared during our welcome event certainly inspired us to hit the ground running.

As we embark on this new journey, we want to take a moment to reflect on the core values that will guide us throughout the year: kindness, mutual respect, compassion, and helping each other within our international community.

These values are at the heart of everything we do here at school. It is inspiring to see how students have begun to embody them in the way they treat one another—offering a helping hand, being kind and considerate in the classroom, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for all.

We believe that learning happens best in an environment where everyone feels respected and supported, and it is clear that our school community is committed to fostering this positive culture. I thanked the students for this during our first assembly —less than a week after being granted our licence. Time certainly flies!

This success would not be possible without the unwavering support of several key groups.

Our amazing team of advisors, who have worked hard to get to know each student personally, are helping to create a foundation of trust and understanding that will make our school year one of growth and achievement. Through their efforts, we are completing baseline assessments that will allow us to set personalised learning targets for each student, ensuring that every child receives the support they need to thrive and grow as Lumio students.

The administrative staff, whose dedication behind the scenes has made everything run smoothly, deserve thanks as well. Their hard work, from enrolment to scheduling and beyond, ensures that students and advisors have everything they need to start the year off on the right foot. The introduction of the canteen service has been appreciated by the children—based on the happy faces and empty plates!

Most importantly, thank you to you, our wonderful parents, who believed in the vision and have partnered with us as we embark on our exciting future together. Your encouragement and engagement have been essential in creating a successful start to the school year. Together, we can continue to foster a learning environment where every child feels safe, cared for, confident, and motivated.

As we move forward, let’s continue to build on this strong foundation. Let us encourage our children to be kind, respectful, and compassionate—to lift each other up and work together. By focusing on these values, we create a space and culture where every student can flourish, not only academically but as individuals who contribute positively to the world around them. We are determined to create a school community with a family atmosphere, and it has been lovely to see so many parents each morning and afternoon.

Thank you once again for your incredible support during this time. We look forward to all the wonderful things this year will bring!

Middleton Activity Week

Ms Donna

We are delighted to share with you the exciting start to the new school year at Lumio School.

The children had a wonderful first week at Middleton, filled with engaging activities designed to help them settle in and get to know one another. One of the highlights was being assigned to their respective houses (A’ir, Ithor, Pir or Yi), where they immediately began bonding with their peers and advisors through fun and interactive team-building exercises.

These early activities have fostered a sense of camaraderie, and the children have truly embraced the school’s value of being kind to each other.

Throughout the week, the students participated in a variety of enriching experiences, including art projects, technical challenges, and sporting events at the APOP. These activities not only allowed them to explore different skills but also encouraged creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. The children’s enthusiasm was evident in everything they undertook, and they are already showing a strong sense of teamwork and house spirit.

Perhaps most importantly, the week provided ample opportunities for everyone to make new friends and form meaningful connections with their classmates and advisors. This has continued into their first few weeks in school.

We are thrilled by their positive start and anticipate many more enriching and memorable experiences ahead.

Health & Wellness

Ms Tania

As we conclude our third week in our new school, I’d like to reflect on the unique journey we are all embarking on together. The start of the school year always brings excitement, but it also comes with the challenge of adjusting to new routines, environments, and expectations.

At Lumio Private School, we recognise that each student’s path is different, and we are committed to ensuring that everyone feels welcome, valued, and equipped to thrive.

One of the things that sets Lumio Private School apart is our commitment to personalisation. As the Head of Inclusion, I work closely with our amazing team of educators to ensure that our approach is tailored to the needs of every student, embracing the diversity of learning styles, strengths, and abilities that make our community so special.

Personalisation at Lumio: What Does it Mean?

At Lumio Private School, we believe in meeting students where they are.

Personalisation is about: Customising learning experiences to suit each student’s strengths, challenges, and interests. We recognise that no two learners are the same, and our goal is to help every child succeed in a way that resonates with them.

Building strong relationships between students, advisors, and families, ensuring open lines of communication and ongoing feedback to adjust learning approaches as needed.

Fostering an environment where students can voice their ideas, explore different ways of learning, and feel empowered to take charge of their educational journey.

How We Make Personalisation Happen: Through collaboration with our teachers and support staff, we’re committed to designing classrooms that are inclusive, flexible, and adaptive. Whether through personalised instruction, specialised resources, or creative lesson planning, our goal is to provide a meaningful learning experience for every student. At Lumio Private School, we celebrate the progress of each individual, no matter how big or small.

How You Can Support Our Personalisation Efforts: Parents and caregivers play a critical role in this process.

Here are a few ways you can help us:

Communicate openly: If there’s something specific you’ve noticed about your child’s learning needs, please let us know! We value your insight and are here to partner with you.

Encourage self-expression: Help your child explore their unique strengths and interests. When students feel confident in their abilities, they are more likely to engage deeply with their learning.

Get involved: Join us for school events and activities where we celebrate the diversity and strengths of our community.

Our shared goal at Lumio Private School is to create an inclusive and personalised educational experience where every student has the opportunity to shine. As we move forward, I’m excited to continue working with each of you to make this school year a journey of growth and connection for every child.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me att.oliveira@lumioschool with any questions, thoughts, or ideas. Together, we can make this year an incredible success.

School Activities

Our students, parents and staff have participated in a variety of events over the last few weeks.

Tour Day – 16 September, where our students and parents were given the opportunity to tour the school, meet the staff and other parents, sample the canteen food, share their wishes and enjoy the new campus.

First day of school – 17 September, we were delighted when the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth gave us permission to open our doors and students attended their very first day of school. There was a lot of excitement as our children got to know each other and their teachers.

First swimming and PE lessons – our students had the opportunity to start swimming lessons in the first week of school and have been enjoying their time learning and advancing in these. There has been a lot of outdoor PE activity including learning basketball skills from a professional player during the Activity Week set up by the Ministry.

General lessons – students are settling into all their lessons and have been assessed in their English language to ensure that our ESL (English as a second language) team can begin providing the necessary support.
