Art Curriculum
At Lumio School, art is far more than just a subject — it’s a powerful tool for expression, connection, and cognitive development. Just like music, art helps “wire the brain,” enhancing creative thinking, emotional intelligence, and problem-solving skills.
From the earliest years through to our senior students, we believe in nurturing imagination and giving every learner the opportunity to explore their own creative journey.
Art supports children in developing spatial reasoning, motor coordination, and self-confidence, while also helping them to understand diverse perspectives.
It provides a safe space to express thoughts and emotions, and encourages children to reflect on the world around them — making it a vital part of a well-rounded education.
In this edition we explore the Art Curriculum, Art Week and how we explore art outside of the classroom.
Arts Week 2025
Creative Journeys: Inspiring Expression Through Art and Culture
Lumio School celebrated Arts Week 2025 bringing the theme Creative Journeys: Inspiring Expression Through Art and Culture to life through a vibrant programme of activities. Students from both primary and secondary took part in hands-on workshops, live painting sessions, and collaborative projects designed to spark creativity and cultural exploration.
Each afternoon, parents were invited to view exhibitions showcasing student work, including tote bags, t-shirts, abstract canvases, pendulum paintings, recycled collages, and artist-inspired drawings. A standout feature was the Art Bus design project, with Grade 9 student Tamar’s winning artwork displayed on the official poster and the bus itself.
The week also featured a silent auction, with proceeds donated to Cans for Kids, a charity supporting children’s hospital wards. The event concluded with a special handover ceremony, recognising the school community’s contribution and creativity.
Exploring Art Beyond the Classroom
Grade 6 Explore the Wonders of Optical Illusion at the Paradox Museum
Our Grade 6 students stepped into a world where nothing is quite as it seems during their visit to the Paradox Museum Limassol. Brimming with brain-bending illusions and hands-on exhibits, the museum offered the perfect playground for curious minds — and an unforgettable way to bring their Optical Art unit to life.
Accompanied by Ms. Lucy, Ms. Dawn, Ms. Eirini and Mr. Ovi, the students didn’t just enjoy the experience—they engaged with it. Ms. Lucy had prepared a series of themed tasks to guide their exploration, helping them draw direct links between classroom learning and the dazzling realities of visual perception.
From upside-down rooms to infinite tunnels, the museum sparked lively discussion on perspective, creativity and the science of how we see. It was a joyful and thought-provoking finale to a unit that encourages students to look beyond the surface — and question what’s truly real.
A Creative Day Out – A. G. Leventis Art Museum
Students from Grades 7, 8, and 9 enjoyed a rich and inspiring day at the A. G. Leventis Art Museum in Nicosia, where they explored the evolution of artistic styles, colour palettes, and storytelling through visual art. The visit offered students a deeper appreciation for artistic expression and its connection to history and culture. Students participated in hands-on creative workshops, experimenting with a range of techniques and processes directly related to artworks displayed in the museum.
As part of our commitment to taking learning beyond the classroom, this visit gave students a valuable opportunity to engage with art in a real-world context, deepening their understanding through experience and observation.
